Hear It From Me

About The Blog

Welcome to my blog.  I have lived with Type 1 Diabetes for over 40 years.  Like you, I have had good and bad experiences along with disappointments.  The disappointments can be so upsetting and frustrating because when you think you have done the right thing and you check a blood glucose value and it is reads 14 mmol/L (250 mg/dl), the emotions kick into play and this can be hard not only on you physically but emotionally and mentally as well.

I had diabetes before blood glucose meters were on the market and I remember buying my first one at $365.00 and strips at $100.00 for a bottle of 100.  The meters were much bigger and took a lot more effort and training to use as compared to today’s devices.

With this blog, my attempt is to create discussion among people with both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. I hope we can help and learn from each other.  We all know, what works for one, doesn’t always work for the other person but sometimes when we and our health care team are at a loss, we are willing to go that extra mile.   I am a pharmacist by profession and have worked in a hospital Diabetic Clinic the early part of my career, and have spoken on Diabetes at many educational events for the public as well as health care professionals.

I dedicate this blog to my mother who always worried about me with diabetes no matter my age and as she was leaving the world she said: “dear I think you should be a writer” because of my love for reading, knowledge and my dedication to those with diabetes.   It was difficult to think of a first topic but with the  Flu season going on, I thought what better place to start.  I encourage you to comment, send ideas and tell others about the site and subscribe.  Since I am not retired yet, my goal will be to do two blogs a month.
